Yahoo Imstant Messenger
I have signed up for yahoo messenger. Every time I log onto the internet the messenger sign in/out box appears on my screen which I don't want to happen. What do I do to make it so that I have to click onto the grey face on the bottom tool bar to make the sign in/out box appear. Yahoo Messenger is a free service that allows you to see when friends come online and to send them instant messages. It also can alert you to new e-mail in your Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Personals. Allows users to save messages, so that they may retain records of their instant messaging communications. O By default, Yahoo! Messenger for the Web will archive your message history in your account on Yahoo! Servers, just like email. O To change your archiving preferences in Messenger, click the Options button from the History window. But if you aren't careful with your security settings, you might get harassing instant messages from people you don't know. Malicious instant messages can even contain viruses. Fortunately, three of the most popular IM clients-MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger and Yahoo Instant Messenger-allow you to block unwanted messages.
This is the new Yahoo Messenger, completely starting fresh and now without the chatrooms that Yahoo! used to be famous for. Now-a-days, it's just another messenger.
Gone are the pre-Web 2.0 days of Yahoo! Chat and welcome to the arrival of the successor, known as Yahoo! Messenger. Back in the day, it was ICQ that lead the IM craze and today Microsoft rules that roost with MSN Messenger, but Yahoo! has added a lot of interesting features to its instant messenger contender, one of which we liked a lot: Yahoo's Cam-to-Cam video chat feature (pictured here).

The client looks pretty good, but we found it slow to say the least. The layout is clean and organized and easy to get around in.
The messenger also features voice mail which is pretty cool. When you're not around, friends can leave you messages so you can get back to them.. though not a viable replacement for real voicemail, but it does actually support leaving voice messages for retrieval on certain types of smartphone.
Like all real messenger clients, Yahoo! messenger also supports filesharing, so sending music or pictures to your family in Europe or Asia is as easy as a few mouse clicks.
Everything we tested on Yahoo! messenger was free, so no reason not to give it a try.
New Yahoo Messenger can make VoIP calls, text chat, join chat rooms, chat with groups and video conference.

Instant messaging (often called just IMing) is the process of exchanging text-based messages in real-time over a computer in a one-on-one conversation (usually, although it is possible to invite multiple people to the same conversation). To do it, you use an instant messaging service such as Yahoo! Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger.
Instant messaging is a lot like Simple Mail Service (SMS) text messaging on a cell phone except it is sent over the Internet rather than via cell phone.
To try out Yahoo! Messenger, download the Yahoo! IM client software. (It’s free.) Then install it, create an account if you don’t have one already, and you’re off and running. To add someone as a contact, open the Contacts menu and choose Add Contact. Then to have a conversation with someone on your Contacts list, double-click their name and type a greeting in the message window that opens.
IM is ideal for quick, little messages where you just want an answer without forming a formal email, as well as for touching base and saying hi. This isn’t a tool you’d typically use for a long, meaningful conversation, but it’s great for quick exchanges.
Instant messages go through a central server maintained by the company that owns the service you are using. Instant messaging services are usually free to the user; the costs are paid by advertisers. Instant message conversations may be logged (saved), but are not necessarily so by default, so this is not the best medium for preserving important conversational records.
Some IM services blur the line between IM and other more sophisticated communication forms such as video chatting. Yahoo! Instant Messenger, for example, offers both webcam and audio chat capabilities as well as text-based communication.
