Hello, I downgraded my OS from Win 10 to Win 8. change the brightness of the laptop as well as the airplane mode. It seems like I couldn't get all the drivers updated because there aren't too many drivers available for Win 8 on the support page.

But I can get the Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver to install correctly. The problem is that the fn keys don't work.
And the Intel SATA Driver Registry Patch doesn't install. I think it's because I don't have the original drivers installed, or is this it? I'm missing something huge, aren't I?

1.) The Fn functions in the F-keys don't work. Which driver do I need for that?
2.) Same thing goes for the Mode - - - - - Settings keys above that. Which driver fixes that?
3.) In the device manager I have and unknown 'Base System Device' with the Location of 'PCI bus 7, device 3, function 2'. What is this/How do I fix it?
4.) The touchpad doesn't scroll. I tried installing the driver from the Sony eSupport page, but it failed. (I reinstalled and rebooted and it's working)
And not a bug, but just a straight up question...
5.) Should I install Sony Shared Library? Do I need it for anything? I really don't plan on installing any of the programs that came pre-installed with Vista, unless it's necessary.

I bought an envy about a month ago and have been working through the usual new laptop quirks. There are plenty of hard-to-notice-until-bought pros and cons that I might pour over some time, but right now I'd just like to mention my findings with respect to the Envy Quick Launch keys that are located on the left of the keyboard.
By default, these keys open up a mail program, HP's MediaSmart SmartMenu, a web browser, printing, and the Windows calculator program. You can see them on the left side of the keyboard, with labels I'll explain in a moment:
There's no way in the HP software to customize the buttons, so I did a little bit of fishing around and found some useful information.
My original intent was to make a small program that would sit in the system tray and simply have a menu to disable all the buttons at will or re-enable them. The buttons are nice, but they aren't the most useful thing to have enabled when one is trying to play a full-screen game. I'd keep getting sent back to the desktop because I accidentally opened a calculator instead of pressing ctrl............

However there is only one problem that I found when I use the laptop. In order for the function keys to be used, I would need to press Fn+(Function Key) Eg. Fn+F1. Now obviously function keys are supposed to act like a shortcut key for certain activities. This actually defeats there purpose. Instead by pressing those keys without the Fn key, I would be able to use the multimedia keys and anything else on the keys with a white symbol on.
I was wondering whether there was any way in which I could swap round the functuion of the keys so that I can use the function keys without having to press Fn?

For example, if I press the F2 key the brightness of my laptop screen would lower. It should not work like this. I should be pressing Fn+F2 for the brightness of my screen to lower. The problem here is that I can't use Alt+F4 to close windows because its reversed, I instead have to press Alf+Fn+F4.
I have already search for an answer online and I can only find that NumLock is supposed to be locked. But, it's a laptop - I have no such key.

So my question is, is it possible to reverse the Function keys? I would much rather press Fn + F1 to mute than have to press press Fn + F1 to access F1.
HP EliteBook 8460p Display :: Brightness Cannot Be Adjusted With Function Keys
Oct 31, 2011I'm having the same trouble with my brand new 8460p : the brightness of the display can not be adjusted with the function keys (fn+F-keys) while in Windows. In other threads the problem has been solved by installing newest chipset drivers (which was not provided by HP), but in these threads the computer has been an earlier model. 8460p has the new QM67 express chipset and currently I'm running the latest drivers (according to intel's detection web site) for it.
I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit with all the latest drivers.

It seems as if the first time after I restart my laptop (Dell inspiron 7000 series, windows 8.1) and I attempt to use the volume/ backlight toggle/ brightness/ etc keys found on the F keys on my keyboard, I can use them pretty much freely. The problem is after I close my laptop for the first time since restarting I then have to hold the Fn button to use them. It can be very annoying at times considering you eventually get used to holding the Fn key, so after the first time using them since restarted you end up hitting F4/5/6 etc instead of changing the brightness or whatever setting you are trying to change. I was wondering if there was some type of setting where I can make these keys permanently free to use as opposed to having to hold the Fn keys after the first time the laptop is in sleep mode.
